As I explained – in this much too long post – I have decided to mine the depths of this site’s intellectual movie capital of crazy awesome movies and craft a top 25 movies list. Now, this movies list will be unlike any other movie list you’ve ever seen. Why? Because Quality and Unknowness will be equally weighted. As I mentioned towards the end of this post, I’ve built an algorithm to find the crazy mindjob movies that no one has heard of so that I can bring them to you in this top twenty five countdown. Our list so far:
25. The Exam
Can’t wait to see this list grow as we find more and more movies that are below your radar… And here is the total list of every movie published so far.
Number 25 – The Exam
The movie, the Exam, received a 4.5 rating when I first reviewed it, and at the time it couldn’t have been a more simple concept. Basically, eight job candidates for an important job, at an extremely powerful corporation in a near future where the world’s markets seem to be collapsing. Eight people, a room, and a sheet of paper. I literally could have made this movie, except, there is no possible way I could have. Stuart Hazeldine is the brilliant individual that had the vision and foresight to bring this film to fruition.
Per an informal Twitter interview I had with Mr. Hazeldine, the movie is a metaphor for our contentious and scary world we live in today. (If you have not seen the movie yet, I probably wouldn’t scroll through and read that page yet. Check it out after you watch. The clever lock that guards the secret of this movie is decidedly spoiled on that particular page.) It’s a metaphor of our darkness, and selfishness. It’s a metaphor of our waywardness and hostility. Not to mention, it’s a wicked clever locked box of a movie, with a solution, and trick so dastardly good, it’ll make you immediately go back to the beginning as soon as you are done the first time.
I’m not going to say any more about this ultra clever technicolor achievement. Just that, in this particular moment, you can watch this smart movie right here on, Amazon Prime, The Google, etc. It also comes and goes from Netflix pretty regularly.
