THiNC. Movie Spotlight #40

THiNC. Movie Spotlight #40 – THiNC. Movie Spotlight #40 – wherein I complain the entire post long about how DUNE is requiring me to wait until NEXT Friday to watch it… even though I already have my IMAX tickets in my sweaty little hands. But until then, I guess we can watch these other films instead… while we wait… and wait… and wait…. But the standouts of this list for myself definitely are Last Duel, and Sorry We Missed you. But a good list top to bottom.

The Last Duel – Theaters Friday – I hear that The Last Duel was written with Ben Affleck, Matt Damon writing their own parts, and Nicole Holofcener writing Jodie Comer’s part. Intriguing. Reminds me of how the Before series was written. Anyway, this story is about Jacques Le Gris and Jean de Carrouges, two friends turned to bitter rivals. Carrouges’ wife, Marguerite, is assaulted by Le Gris, and Le Gris denies any wrong doing. She refuses to stay quiet, and she puts her own life in jeopardy by bringing forward her accusation. The “trial”? Is a duel via combat… a battle to the death. I am in, in, in. Interesting to see Affleck and Damon on the screen together again, and also writing again. Especially seeing as though Good Will Hunting is my favorite movie of all time. Should be interesting to see them at it again.

Sorry We Missed You – AppleTV, Prime, – Apparently, Ricky and family have been fighting with debt since the financial crash. They are hoping to buy a new van, and start a business as a delivery driver. Which, turns out to be hard work. But when changes come, things start falling apart from the top down. I’m hearing this is a brutal take down on society’s policies and the ripple effects that are crushing the individuals at the bottom of this pile.

Y: The Last Man – Hulu Based on DC Comics’ acclaimed series by Brian K. Vaughan and Pia Guerra, the drama “Y: The Last Man” traverses a post-apocalyptic world in which a cataclysmic event decimates every mammal with a Y chromosome but for one cisgender man and his pet monkey. The series follows the survivors in this new world as they struggle with their efforts to restore what was lost and build something better. “Y: The Last Man” is a 60-issue science fiction comic book series published in 2002.

The Chestnut Man – Netflix A figurine made of chestnuts is found at the scene of a grisly murder. From this creepy clue, two detectives hunt for a killer linked to a politician’s missing child. From what I am hearing, this is a fantastic show, worthy of all our attention. The trailer makes it feel a bit like Black Spot maybe? I’m definitely watching this one. Lisa? I think you were the one watching this one?

We Need to Do Something – Prime – Seeking shelter from a storm, a family finds themselves trapped for days with no sign of rescue and untold evils lurking just beyond the walls in this wildly fun house-of-horrors thrill ride. Thanks for the tip Nancy.
