Glasshouse!!! Woot. Looks awesome. Breathe. Sorry. Getting a little ahead of myself. Like always, THiNC. is interested in finding fun movies that will make us think. Usually. Hopefully. Different movies anyway. Not all of them will make us think, but hopefully they will break the mold. So here is our 58th weekly list of movie recommendations… and this list is so fantastic, so filled with brilliant THiNC.-possible options, I’m going to leave this little donate button for you!
Glasshouse – February 7th
CY!? You are awesome. This looks brilliant. Almost like a more legitimate Zombie/Classics cross-over. Set in Victorian England(?), apparently there is a global pandemic that is called The Shreds – a disease that destroys the host’s memories, and leaves them in an animalistic state – we visit a family that has taken to killing anyone with the disease that wanders into their reach. Things go sideways when a normal looking individual arrives, and they choose not to kill him. This looks uber. Cannot wait. No idea if this will be available via VPN, or will be streaming broadly on the 7th. (Free link discussing the wonder that is Glasshouse.)
The Black Phone – February 4th – theaters?
For the record? I’ll watch Ethan Hawke read the weather. But this summary: “Finney Shaw, a shy but clever 13-year-old boy, is abducted by a sadistic killer and trapped in a soundproof basement where screaming is of little use. When a disconnected phone on the wall begins to ring, Finney discovers that he can hear the voices of the killer’s previous victims. And they are dead set on making sure that what happened to them doesn’t happen to Finney.” Sounds awesome.
Stop and Go – January 29th – streaming?
I’m seeing people liken this to Locke. That and Booksmart. Which, blows my mind that it can be both things simultaneously. “Two directionless sisters brave a cross-country road trip to rescue their grandmother from a COVID outbreak at her nursing home.” I don’t know… this strikes me as hilarious for some reason today. (Truth be told, I considered adding it last week, and passed.) So who knows.
The Worst Person in the World – February 4th – Norway?
I think the official release date on this is the 4th of February – but maybe only in Norway and Europe? I’m not entirely certain. Yeah, it looks like this will hit theaters in America, on the 4th. I’ve watched this already, and it was good. Wasn’t good enough for me to write it up, but I thought it was interesting. She connects to different guys, randomly, and in an unintentionally/intentional way, just “ruthlessly” doing what she wants, and not really ever looking back. She tells one guy that she’ll see him at home, and on a lark, crashes a party, and mind melds with a guy. It is a fascinating look… and it made me wonder about society’s double standards between how we treat men and women. I don’t know if that was the point of the movie… but it was my take away anyway.
Moonfall – February 3rd – Theaters
Is this a funny Independence Day???? I can’t tell. Personally think it looks way better than Don’t Look Up. But I am personally not too excited about it. But who knows. It’s becoming difficult for “SAVE THE WORLD!!!!” science movies to survive outside of the Marvel universe. Who knows. Maybe this one will make them popular again. If you like exploring this idea of the moon falling, moon exploding, I have to recommend the book Seveneves by Neal Stephenson. That tip is random, and useless, but free. You are welcome.
