Last week THiNC. Spotlight brought to you a super small film I’m CERTAIN you had never heard of before, and now? The Batman. And now I’ve seen it… and who do you love? Hubba Hubba Hubba? I nailed it… didn’t I? The Batman was extraordinary. Like a superhero Se7en. And there is no way you would have heard of it without Spotlight #62. You are so welcome. (hehehehe. I make even myself laugh sometimes at my audacity of my extreme stupidity. But hey, I’d do anything to keep you entertained. ARE YOU NOT ENTERTAINED!?!?!? ARE YOU?!?!?”). Regardless… this spotlight is AMAZING. Aubrey Plaza, Ryan Reynolds, Racist Aliens (or something, not quite sure), revenge, graves… craziness. And the best part? We get to see how well I did with the game: Guess the Trailer from Spotlight #61!!!
Also – I’m always looking for new movies that I might have missed – please swing by the discord server and say hello. Or reach out at Patreon. Or maybe buy me a drink. Yes, you really are too kind…
Quick note, if you haven’t gotten your hands on Gold yet? I think you will be able to this coming week – on March 11th. We brought it to you in Spotlight like 2 or something. But we also did a deep dive on why Zac Efron is second in line on my actor fanboy crush list… right behind Robert Patterson. (Have I mentioned yet how extraordinary The Batman was yet? Because, holy s@#$@! It was glorious.)
Ultrasound – March 11th
If you watch this trailer – there is a moment that flips this from a cheesy bar-joke into a crazy psychological mindjob of epic proportions. The trailer claims that it is “Nolan-esque. On par with Primer, Memento, and Fight Club.” Now, I don’t know about you – but that’s like someone invoking the Holy Trinity in church. The opening looks lame beyond belief, but knowing that it is spiraling into something else entirely?? I am so excited about this one.
The Adam Project – March 11th – Netflix
Ryan Reynolds + Time Travel? Enough said. This is going to be magical. Apparently Adam goes back and meets himself… and the universe implodes, because, of course it does. End of movie. Who knows. But that trailer looks fantastic. (To be honest, I’ve watched 15 seconds of it as I don’t want to spoil it. You had me at Time Travel though…)
Outsiders – March 11th
This one has the beat, and the feel of The Signal… you guys remember that glorious mindjobby flick from a few years ago? A movie that starts doing one thing… and cold cocks you when you are staring off into the trees. I’m digging the vibe of this movie. A movie about racism, and prejudice… WHAT ALIENS WHO? ALIENS ARE RACIST TOO?? Can’t wait. Did I mention lately that I loved The Batman? Don’t think I have. Yeah, I loved The Batman. Robert… swoon.
Ash & Dust – March 11th
“Before you embark on a journey of revenge, dig two graves.” So great. So basically this movie is going to be a happy family reunion, touchy feel fest? CAN’T WAIT!! hahahah. I mean, check out this movie poster? This seems like a happy movie.
Spin Me Round – March 12th
This is going to be a chance for you to learn what it takes for a Spotlight to come together. This movie did NOT work out… but watch me dig and research as I try and figure this movie out.
I have NO idea what is going on here – but Spin Me Round doesn’t have a trailer released yet. Hrm. I know for a fact, because I’ve confirmed with SXSW 2022 that it will be premiering there on March 12th at the Zach Theater in Austin. (Austin? How does that help us?? Keep reading.) But I’ve also noticed that there will also be available for streaming on March 13th. What I haven’t figured out, is how to purchase tickets to the online streaming. Will it go wide with like Netflix? ORRRR will it just be at SXSW? My current bet is that it’ll just be a limited time screening streaming (that’s fun to say) only available via SXSW. Oh, look what I found! https://schedule.sxsw.com/2022/films/2053940… yeah, nope. Spin Me Round is only available to SXSW ticket holders. And an online SXSW 2022 ticket will set you back a paltry $519. Heck, that’s a lot cheaper than the in-person $1925 platinum badge. Gotta say. So, yeah, I’ll guess I’ll put Spin Me Round back in the watch list at the bottom of this page. Because, we’ll wait forever for Aubrey.
See? Making these lists is really hard to do. Finding new movies that no one else has, sometimes means you swing and miss. But hey. That’s the way it goes sometimes. You guys are worth it.
GUESS THE TRAILER FOLLOWUP:
Back on Spotlight 61 I played a fairly random game of Guess The Trailer – wherein I watched the trailer for The Desperate Hour and predicted where the movie was going to go. Well, I just sped watched it, and I gotta say, I got pretty close. The first 50 minutes’ push was to make us think that Noah was the shooter. You know… the mom (Naomi Watts) running around in the wood’s son. Which, I suggested would happen. I also predicted that Noah’s mother would be the key to unlock the movie, and this hostage situation. I was 100% right there. I kind of thought they would use her knowledge of the school and her unique job to get to the shooter. I was wrong there. She did use her connections in order to ascertain that Noah was innocent (all while running.) But the movie spins off the cliff when the FBI and the local police begged her to call the shooter back. “Why? I only talked to him for 10 seconds.” “That’s 10 more seconds than we have had with him. Can you call him back, we need you to distract him while we go in.” I mean. COME ON. This is a tragic crime against humanity!!
Guess the Trailer Score? I’d give myself an 85/100. I can definitely do better next time. And hey, if you want to play Guess the Trailer… I would love to host your guesses here in future Spotlights. Just send me a trailer and your guess and we’ll see if you can do better than I did today. (Shouldn’t be too hard! hahaha. 85?! Gah.) And this was a terrible movie too!
