THiNC. Movie Spotlight #76 – Are these spotlights helping you find new movies to watch? No? Yes? If yes, could you please comment below and let others know about a time when a spotlight pointed you to a worthwhile watch? (Personally? Last week’s Spotlight, Spotlight #75, pointed me to (I pointed myself to??) Dashcam, which I had a blast with. Yes, I know, most people hated it. And I don’t rightly care… but I had a lot of fun with it.) But what have you found from a spotlight that you enjoyed? Can you tell us about it? Trying to determine if these spotlights are worth the time they take to pull together.
And, also – thanks for helping to keep this site running day in and day out!
Glimpse – available to stream now
“Three people are up for the same job. Their lives are turning inside out under the pressure. And someone is watching the whole thing. More than one person, in fact. And someone else is watching them watch. A sorrowful and comedic examination of our fall into the surveillance culture.” You had me at Michael Emerson.
Crimes of the Future – June 10th
Think I might have posted this one last week – but I don’t believe it is out until June 10th? Anyway, this is the Kirsten Stewart, Viggo Mortensen movie that is apparently very controversial? People walked out at Cannes? And yet, it got a 6-minute standing ovation? Huh. Oh, okay. So, that’s complicated.
Those are the new movies available this coming week. But did you know that have you seen these amazing closed box movies before? If not, I guarantee you they’ll rock your world. Promise. Swear on a stack o’ Bibles kind of good.
Free Fire – Flashback Closed Box
There is nothing like a good closed box film. Nothing. Take a couple of characters. Put them in a box. And then shake the box violently, and see what happens? So good. “In 1970’s Boston, a meeting in a deserted warehouse between two gangs turns into a shoot-out and a game of survival.”
Unknown – Flashback Closed Box
“Five men wake up in a locked-down warehouse with no memory of who they are. They are forced to figure out who is good and who is bad to stay alive.” Sort of a cheesy premise – 5 people, some good, some bad – all have memory loss – and find themselves in a warehouse together. Do you protect the guy next to you? Or do you kill the guy next to you? Fun little movie puzzle.
Standoff on Sparrow Creek – Flashback Closed Box
All of today’s closed box movies are warehouse based movies. No idea why, just the movies that immediately came to mind (if you want a great non-warehouse closed box movie, try Hippopotamus, or 10×10, you are welcome.) This movie is all about a militia group that might have seditious intent? I really can’t say much about this one or I’ll spill the beans.
