Gotta say, this strike has been one big, gi-humongous desert wasteland. Just an epic cluster from top to bottom. I think the latest numbers are that it has shellacked the California economy to the tune of something like $5 billion?? Worse, I’m annoyed that Dune has been delayed!
I think the WGA began the strike back 92 years ago, on May second. And when it did, the first impacts were felt on the night shows, and the day time talk shows. They will generally be able to flip back on without delay. But there is still an ongoing strike that is being driven by SAG-AFTRA, which is still on strike. So now, the focus will switch over to the SAG-AFTRA push, and hopefully that will get settled soon as well. But even so, this interim deal still needs to get finalized. Then, after that, the AMPTP and SAG-AFTRA will need to see progress as well.
74 days. It’s been a very long time I’d say. I even took time to list out the movies impacted a couple weeks ago. And I think that list is actually way off now, as the impacts have just continued to ripple and tsunami it’s way down stream.
But let’s be clear, we are not out of the woods yet. Hopefully though we have turned the stalemate around??? This is Hollywood Powers that Be, so who knows.
