Ya know… it’s funny. I started the THiNC. Spotlight sort of as a tracker for myself. I wanted to stay on top of movies coming my way, and make sure I didn’t miss anything interesting. And so I worked with the THiNC. folks on discord, and voila, the Spotlight was born. 150 installments later? I’d say it’s a mainstay on the site.
The goal of the Spotlight is to just track movies that I want to see how they develop. Some I’ll watch, some I’ll keep tabs on for their reviews, etc. But ultimately, these Spotlights are a tool for you all to keep track of interesting things to watch each week. I know, I love you, too, dear anonymous lurker.
2023.01.14 TRUE DETECTIVE: NIGHT COUNTRY
Single best television single season of television? True Detective season 1. There isn’t an argument here. It’s just a fact of record. (Best entire series is definitely Dark. More facts on record. Just saying.) So whenever a new season of True Detective comes out it’s a moment of celebration. Without a doubt. So don’t walk… run, can’t wait to make time for this show.
2024.1.12 ROLE PLAY
Maybe completely overdone, but this looks like a great laugh to me. Who knows? Maybe it’ll be the dumbest movie of the year… we shall see. “Emma has a wonderful husband and two kids in the suburbs of New Jersey. She also has a secret life as an assassin for hire, a secret that her husband Dave discovers when the couple decide to spice up their marriage with a little role play.” (Update, just watched – laughed throughout. Bill Nighy specifically… “Is that right BOB?” Delish. Loved it. Corny setup, great execution.)

2024.01.19 ORIGIN – (THEATER)
Oooooh man… this film looks like an A-BOMB! Wow. I had never heard of this one. So, check this out – Origin is a film that is based on a non-fiction retelling of racism from a perspective of a CASTE system here in America. So, wouldn’t that make it fiction? REGARDLESS, this movie looks like it is going to piss off a lot of people and I am totally here for it. One thousand percent. Now I have to figure out how to get a hold of 2 hours to go and see it in the theaters. HRMMMMM. THINKING!
