Part four of the countdown, and we’re getting into docs that reviewers are starting to really love. The RT scores are climbing, the stories are getting crazier, and I’m having way too much fun putting this together. Let’s go.

Netflix Documentary #85 — Abducted in Plain Sight

2017 | Film | Directed by Skye Borgman

74% from critics and 73% from audiences. This documentary is famous for making viewers pause it every ten minutes to say ‘WAIT, WHAT?’ out loud. The story of how a family friend repeatedly kidnapped the same child is so unbelievable that you’ll think it’s fiction. Every time you think it can’t get worse, it gets worse. Borgman directed multiple docs on this list, and she has a gift for these kinds of stories.

Netflix Documentary #84 — Titan: The OceanGate Disaster

2025 | Film | Directed by Mark Monroe

74% from critics. The OceanGate submersible implosion was one of those stories the whole world watched in real time. This doc goes deeper (pun absolutely intended) into the hubris, the corner-cutting, and the warning signs everyone ignored. It’s a case study in what happens when ego overrides engineering. If you followed the story when it broke, this fills in every gap you didn’t know existed.

Netflix Documentary #83 — The Twister: Caught in the Storm

2025 | Film | Directed by Alexandra Lacey

77% on Rotten Tomatoes. Storm chasing documentaries have a built-in adrenaline advantage, and this one delivers on that front. But what elevates it beyond just spectacular footage is the human element — the people whose lives get upended in minutes. If you loved the Twisters movie and want the real version, here you go.

Netflix Documentary #82 — Our Father

2022 | Film | Directed by Lucie Jourdan

78% from critics and I’d personally rate it higher. A fertility doctor secretly used his own sperm to father dozens — possibly hundreds — of children. The documentary follows the siblings as they discover each other through DNA tests and try to get justice. The rage you’ll feel watching this is very, very real. Dr. Cline is one of the most infuriating people you’ll ever encounter on screen.

Netflix Documentary #81 — Louis Theroux: Inside the Manosphere

2026 | Film | Directed by Adrian Choa

79% on RT. Louis Theroux is one of the best documentary journalists working today, and he turns his lens on the manosphere — the online ecosystem of men’s rights activists, pick-up artists, and red pill influencers. Theroux has that incredible ability to let people talk themselves into revealing exactly who they are. Given the cultural moment we’re in, this couldn’t be more timely.
