I’ve been following Ben Young for a while now, and have just fallen in love with his cut glasses pieces. He has a style all his own and utilizes layers and layers of cut glass, and sometimes he orchestrates them with cement or bronze in order to create beautiful pieces of art. Previously he’s done gorgeous sculptures of the female figure and horses. But now Ben Young is back with some really great ocean-scapes that represent caves, shores, waves, and shores that are just fascinating to look at.
Per his website, in order to construct his pieces, Ben follows a very complex and rigorous planning process which he sketches and constructs models. He will then create custom jigs before cutting the layers of clear sheet float glass that are then laminated into solid seascapes. And then Ben lights many of his pieces from underneath and brings the sculpture to life with a completely new perspective on the piece.
