THiNC. Movie Spotlight #19

You know what? I like you. You are a nice person. And do not, under any circumstance, let anyone tell you anything different. Okay? Why the sudden burst of optimism? Well, the sun is shining brightly here in the foothills of the Rockies – there’s fresh snow up there… and everything is coming up roses. So take the rare burst of optimism and run would you? Why are you even looking a gift horse in the proverbial mouth?

Today, we are lucky to have CY take over the helm of this week’s Spotlight. She always has some really fantastic international films, that I am usually totally ignorant about, to share with us. And I’m sure there will be a couple films here that you haven’t heard of, but will also enjoy. CY is the savant that pitched me on In Bruges… which, for me? Was basically a spiritual experience to watch. And subsequently, was one of like, 3 or 4 perfect ratings I’ve ever given a movie. Perfect ratings are extraordinarily rare. But In Bruges knocked it out of the park. That was all CY. So let’s see what she has for us this week!!

Only the Animals – 2019 – this French film has a 97% rotten tomatoes rating. It tells the story of a woman who has disappeared. When the snowstorm ends, her car is discovered on a road to a small remote village. While the police don’t know where to start, five people are linked to the disappearance. Each one with his or her own secret. This one is proving to be a hard one to find. If you spot a place where we can all watch it online, give a yell in the comments.

The Dressmaker – 2015 – Accused of murder when she was a child, a dressmaker (Kate Winslet) returns to her small Australian town to seek revenge on the locals who did her wrong. Watch it right here on Prime. Looks like a delight. Kate Winslet looks great in this – and the fact that it has a clever revenge twist to it? Even better.

Welcome to the Punch – 2013 – Welcome to the Punch is a 2013 British action thriller film written and directed by Eran Creevy and starring James McAvoy, Mark Strong, and Andrea Riseborough. When a notorious criminal is forced to return to London, it gives a veteran detective one final chance to bring the man to justice. Watch it right here.

The Furnace – 2020 – this is the Australian Western revenge flick. Not the other one… which came out in 2019, I believe. The Furnace tells the story of stolen gold bars that need to get to a furnace in order to refashion them minus the identifiable crown stamped on them. This is another hard movie to find online. But don’t worry, I’m sure your local Blockbuster has this one. Oh, wait. There will be bounties in the comments for the first person to find a place to stream this one online.

Look, again… we don’t certify these movies like I do with my in depth walk-throughs. They don’t come with a money back guarantee. But you are grownups here. Right? Check them out – if you watch any of them, let us know here, and tell everyone reading what you thought of them. We’ll be better off for your guidance. Unlike normal weeks, all of these movies have been certified with my totally fake money back guarantee – if CY likes them, then you’ll like them. And if you don’t, rethink your life choices.

If you’d like to read more of our THiNC. Spotlight recommendations, you can do that right here. There are well over a hundred movie recommendations just in past Spotlights alone by this point.
