THiNC. Movie Spotlight #27

THiNC. Movie Spotlight 27 – Wherein I show you movies. You say… ooooh. And alternatively, aaaahhhhhh. And you ask me how best to thank the people that brought you these movies. And in turn, I give you links (over and over again) on how to find them, and thank them in person. We are a full service shop here at THiNC. And you are welcome.

MLK/FBI 2021 – Look, this shit blows my mind. There’s just no other way of putting it. This movie documents the blatant, and mind blowing, way in which the American government actively used every tool in their arsenal (including blackmail) to attempt to dis-empower the Reverend King during the height of the Civil Rights movement. I mean, there are parts of this story that are obvious. But the way in which the government, to this day, has not paid for its outright evil is unbelievable to me. To put it sharply, the government recorded evidence of King’s marital infidelities and used it to to attempt to bludgeon him into submission. Watch it right now over on Hulu. I found this one, and if you’d like to join me over on the THiNC. chat server to thank me for changing your life for the better?? Join us right here.

The Dry – 2020 – Aaron Falk (Eric Bana) returns to his drought-stricken hometown to attend a tragic funeral. But his return opens a decades-old wound – the unsolved death of a teenage girl. Apparently, The Dry is glued together by Bana’s performance, and it apparently permeates the entirety of this flick. Ratings are great for this one. But, take ratings with a grain of salt. Love to hear what you think of this one in the comments. I’m intrigued. Thanks Chris for the tip. (You have to start paying attention to the recommenders I’m calling out… I mean, how else will you find the person you need to thank over on the discord server? Oh, you need the link to discord? Scrolling up a paragraph is too far? hit it here.)

Line of Duty – 2020 – “After refusing to help cover up an unlawful and fatal shooting by members of his team, a detective is transferred to Anti-Corruption Unit 12, AC-12. Run by something of a zealot, AC-12 is responsible for investigating possible corruption within the Central Police force. Bring in Kate Fleming, an undercover specialist….she is here to take on difficult investigations.” Wait. Cough. Someone just tell me stuff blows up or something. The overview put me to sleep just typing it out. Seriously though, this one is brought to us by Lisa, so I promise it’s good. PROMISE. Watch it on Hulu. (Cough, thank her here on the free to access discord server, cough.)

Preparations to Be Together for an Unknown Period of Time – 2021 – Man, that’s a mouthful of a title. Reminds me of “We Have Forgotten More than We Ever Knew.” I digress. PTBTFAUPOT is basically a Hungarian Before Sunrise sort of experience. Except instead of two bohemian thinkers, here we have two neurosurgeons and an experience of a bizarre case of amnesia. Look. You loved Before Sunrise. I know you did, because I like you. You like me. Right? RIGHT? Good, so, PTBTFAUPOT is a bit of a romantic mystery… and an unraveling. Sure, it might not be nearly as solid as Before Sunrise, or Columbus… but it is solid all the same. And when it comes right down to it, two people talking is the purest form of anything, including cinema. Oh, wanting to know who to thank over on discord for this one?? Brilliant… I have you asking in advance now. Love it. Well, that would be me. Can’t wait to see you out there, hat in hand, maybe some sweets? A lovely bouquet of wildflowers? hahaha.

Enter Nowhere – 2011 – Every week I try to bring you a movie we have talked about before here on THiNC. – but seeing as though you guys let so many great movies fall through the cracks, I figure it doesn’t hurt to revisit the quieter releases. And this is a super quiet – but brilliant one. It’s a low budget looping movie that takes a few actors, sends them out to a shack in the woods, and turns the blender on high. Love this little movie. I think I even interviewed the screenplay author as well. This is a fun one. And no, you don’t have to thank me for this one. This one was on the house.

There you have it – THiNC. Movie Spotlight #27. If you’d like to read more of our THiNC. Spotlight recommendations, you can do that right here.
