Welcome back to my countdown of the 100 best Netflix documentaries! If you’re just joining, I’m working through my personally curated list from #100 down to #1. Some of these have perfect Rotten Tomatoes scores. Some don’t have scores at all. What they all have in common is that they’re worth your time. Let’s keep it moving.
Netflix Documentary #95 — Nature Boy
I’ve had this flagged forever. If this is the ESPN 30 for 30 that made its way to Netflix, it’s a deep dive into one of the most colorful characters in wrestling history. No clean RT data to point to, but the storytelling in this space is almost always phenomenal. Sports docs that transcend their sport are my absolute favorite kind.
Netflix Documentary #94 — Race to the Summit
2023 | Film | Directed by Nicholas de Taranto
Two Swiss alpine climbers — Ueli Steck and Dani Arnold — locked in a death-defying rivalry to set speed records on the Alps’ most dangerous north faces. If you liked Free Solo, this is your next watch. The footage is absolutely insane, shot from the climbers’ own perspective as they scramble up sheer rock faces without ropes. The ending… I won’t spoil it. Just watch it.
Netflix Documentary #93 — The AI Doc
2026 | Film | Directed by Unknown
Full title is ‘The AI Doc: Or How I Became an Apocaloptimist’ — and yes, that title alone earned it a spot. We’re living through the most significant technological shift since the internet, and any documentary trying to wrestle with what AI means for humanity gets my attention. Still needs proper verification on RT, but the subject matter couldn’t be more timely.
Netflix Documentary #92 — The Lost Children
2024 | Film | Directed by Orlando von Einsiedel
This one absolutely wrecked me. A small plane crashes in the Colombian Amazon. The adults die. But the four indigenous children — ages 11 months to 13 years — survive. For FORTY DAYS. In the jungle. Alone. Using ancestral knowledge passed down through their culture to stay alive. The rescue operation that follows is one of the most incredible stories I’ve ever encountered. Directed by the same filmmaker behind Virunga. Essential viewing.
Netflix Documentary #91 — The Predator of Seville
Another one I flagged for the list that needs more review data before I can give you a full breakdown. The title alone tells you this is true crime territory, and if Netflix gave it a platform, there’s usually a reason. I’m working through these systematically, so check back — I’ll have more to say soon.
