1 World Trade Center Elevator Historical Tribute
Totally weird thing happened whilst watching this New York Times elevator ride video… I think it like, broke my eyes or something. No idea why or how. Or what? But what is it? First watch… then I’ll explain.
The elevators to the observatory atop 1 World Trade Center show an animated time lapse that recreates the development of New York City’s skyline, from the 1500s to today.
So, these are monitors (9 75-inch high definition monitors to be exact) built into the five elevators that service the top of 1 World Trade Center. The 9 monitors basically give the appears of windows out to the outside world. And as the cab ascends they reveal an animated view of history of the area over the past 500 hundred years. They show the buildings that have come and gone over the years and what they would have looked like as you climbed the entirety of the tower in the span of 42 seconds.. Truly profound concept. Especially when you see one of the World Trade Towers coming and then going again.Touching really.
I personally love how the steel framework of one of the trade towers seems to coalesce around the cab as it continues its ascent. But I’m sure there were plenty of arguments about whether or not to include the doomed structure in the video. Are you sure you want to remind the visitors to the top of 1 World Trade Center of the previous chaos? But then again, they are visiting, its guaranteed to be on their minds. Might as well pay homage to the past, and our American heritage, of which the World Trade Center is now firmly cemented within.
I think its a gorgeous tribute and a really innovative idea. Worth a visit just to see this in action I would think. Apparently it will be opening when the top of the building opens in a month. We shall see what Americans think then. But right now, I think it is stunning.
