Raubdruckerin is Guerilla Printing At Its Best
I love clever. Because, there is no replacement for clever. Nothing. The other day I chatted with a brilliant clever, who was doing artistic weavings from computer algorithms that designed patterns of El Greco paintings. That is clever. And today I have even more interesting clever happening here. But this time, we have Raubdruckerin Guerilla Printing on manhole covers. Come on. As far as clever goes, this is about as clever as it gets.
Here, this is what the end Raubdruckerin product looks like. But it’s the guerilla art of it that really enamors me. Running out into the street, stopping traffic, and covering a manhole with paint, and then pushing a shirt or two into it?!? hahahha. That is fantastic. And doesn’t the result come out well? I love it. It could be that they are German that I find so fantastic. Who knows.
So I started thinking – hrm. Wonder if I could do a little bit of this myself? And I thought, what if I could create prints from various locations around the world that are based on their manhole covers? What they work out nearly as well as the German one to the right? So I started hunting for manholes covers from different cities and different types to see what they might look like.
From the above examples you can see one from China, Louisville, and Hiroshima. Which I think came out pretty well. But that’s me selecting some of the most interesting manholes I could find on the planet. What about an art print based on a manhole from Los Angeles? How would that come together? Or would it be embarrassingly crazy like this right here?
Seriously, that is literally what it would look like. “Made in Mexico”. I’m not thinking this would work too well here in the states. Asia has some amazing manhole covers that would just be phenomenal. And various countries in Europe too. But the US?? No not so much. Anyway, if you are interested in buying a t-shirt, or a poster from these guerilla printers, you can do so here.
