THiNC. Movie Spotlight #53

THiNC. Movie Spotlight Number Fifty-three. And this is Taylor, from the future, swinging back through this list to say that I really enjoyed Munich: The Edge of War, had a lot of fun with that movie, and others on this list as well. And Drive My Car made some big ripples in this year’s Oscar world as well.

The Edge of War – December 31st theateres – 1/31 – Netflix

It is Autumn 1938 and Europe stands on the brink of war. Adolf Hitler is preparing to invade Czechoslovakia and Neville Chamberlain’s government desperately seeks a peaceful solution. With the pressure building, Hugh Legat, British civil servant, and Paul von Hartmann, German diplomat, travel to Munich for the emergency Conference. As negotiations begin, the two old friends find themselves at the centre of a web of political subterfuge and very real danger.

The First Wave – on Hulu

If you’ve been here longer than 5 minutes, you know I love me some amazing documentaries, and what better documentary is there than one detailing the chaos and trauma that was the first wave of the Covid pandemic? “This is a look at the everyday heroes at the epicenter of COVID-19 as they come
together to fight one of the greatest threats the world has ever encountered.” I can’t wait to make the time to watch this one.

Ammonite – Stream

1840s England, acclaimed but overlooked fossil hunter Mary Anning, and a young woman sent to convalesce by the sea, develop an intense relationship, altering both of their lives forever.

Drive My Car – in theaters

Ryusuke Hamaguchi tells an intricate story about a man grieving his wife Oto. But he is also just trying to figure her out in a way that was impossible while she was still alive. He begins learning early on that his wife had many other connections with other men, and yet still loved him very much. And as he travels, he connects with various individuals, and in so doing snaps together a number of different fragments of who his wife really is. And in so doing, maybe he will learn something about himself.
