THiNC. Movie Spotlight 107

Thanks everyone for joining the Oscar Competition…

Quick shout out to everyone that joined in on the Oscar Competition I hosted the last month. And a big hazzah goes out to John from Merced California on their win with 11 correct picks!! I mean, who knew that A24 was going to clean house like they did? Pretty unbelievable really. Anyway, kudos John!! And keep reading to join in on the next competition.

Inside – In Theaters Now

This looks utterly awesome. First I’ve heard of it and I’m hooked already. Trying to formulate a plan for how I can get to the theaters pronto! “Nemo, a high-end art thief, is trapped in a New York penthouse after his heist doesn’t go as planned. Locked inside with nothing but priceless works of art, he must use all his cunning and invention to survive.” Maybe sort of reminds me of Platform was it? Yeah. Guessing this will go in really crazy directions.

Boston Strangler – 3/17 – HULU

Loretta McLaughlin becomes the first journalist to connect the Boston Strangler murders. As the mysterious killer claims more and more victims, Loretta attempts to continue her investigation alongside colleague and confidante Jean Cole.

A Disturbance in the Force – 3/14

Hahahaha. You aren’t a real Star Wars fan if you haven’t sat through the entirety of The Star Wars Holiday Special. It’s a really really special kind of hell. Hahah. Just an exorbitantly horrible kind of hell. Well, over at SXSW this past week, the creators of Napoleon Dynamite released a documentary telling the story of the release of the trash heap that lauded itself as a “holiday special.” It’s sort of unclear as to when A Disturbance in the Force will hit theaters – but maybe you could watch the original holiday special in the meantime as we collectively hold our breath and await the arrival of this tell all magic! Curious what Harrison Ford thinks of the Christmas special… here he is on Conan talking about it – or not talking about it as the case may be.

Shadow and Bone Season 2 – 3/16

I adore Leigh Bardugo. I chugged all of the Shadow and Bone books (All seven, inc. Six of Crows, and the King of Scars books) and was an instant fan. And this past week I read Ninth House and Hell Bent, which are a grown-up version of Harry Potter, if Harry Potter was an Occult Noir Detective series? Which, it sort of is? But darker? Anyway, all that to say, the first round of Shadow and Bone was fantastic… it layered in a perfect blend of the Sixth of Crows and Shadow and Bone simultaneously. Eric Heisserer who I’ve chatted with a couple different times (specifically during the premier of Arrival and also Bird Box) is the brains behind the series, and he’s done an amazing job with it. I unreservedly recommend both the books (yes, yes I am attempting to butter up Leigh Bardugo so she’ll give me an interview) and the series as well. And I cannot wait for season 2 to drop. Should take the story to an all new level.

Pinball: The Man Who Saved the Game – 3/17

I’m a geek. Like, a geek’s geek. And when it comes to 80’s video games, Rubik’s cubes, arcade games and errata… I’m all in. So when I saw that a story about Pinball was coming?? Yes, please.

“An unsettled writer finds solace in pinball. But when a police raid destroys the only machines he can find in 1970s New York City, he learns the game is illegal. Roger reluctantly joins forces with the Music and Amusement Association to overturn the ban while simultaneously falling in love.” Did I mention it was about pinball? I believe it’ll be available on iTunes and in theaters…
