2023 THiNC. Movie Year in Review

I love doing these year end reviews. And I always do them in January, thereby missing all the potential end of year interest. So, I’m doing this one earlier, to see if we can get this list out to a broader range of people. So, this year, I’ve got two lists for you. The first one is the list of the most read posts of the year. All data, no opinions. Number of reads among all the posts written in 2023. Please note, I don’t take into account the year the movie came out. It’s just a list of the most popular posts in 2023. Make sense? And the second list? Yeah, that’s probably the list you are looking for… aka, the THiNC. opinion on the best movies of the year. Let’s do it!

#02 Most Read Post of 2023 – DONNIE DARKOYeah, I know, this one is old… but I had been waiting so long to actual put my thoughts together on this one that it blew up? I don’t know really. Sorry it’s not a 2023 film! What are you going to do?

#01 Most Read Post of 2023 – SISU This one post was read more than all the others in this list put together. This post went to the moon. And what’s really fun about that? I wasn’t a fan of the movie, and just bad mouthed it all review long. But so many people were dying to find out what they had just watched that they didn’t mind too much? haha. (Taylor, the comments tell a different story! hahah, yeah, that’s true.)

So, there you have it – the posts of 2023 that were read the most. Do you see what I did there? Those are just the most read posts that were WRITTEN in 2023. But what were the most read posts for all year? You curious dog, you. Here’s a quick list of those:

  1. Netflix Dark – (since creating these family trees, they are ALWAYS my most read posts. And there are 5 of them that are in the top 10 list. So I’m combining them into just this one post. Dark basically keeps this site up and running all by itself, and some extra.)
  2. Sisu – (See, there is a little overlap between the lists.)
  3. Spinning Man – (This movie is always in the top five because the ending is so confusing. Wait, did he actually not do it? Or did he? I don’t blame you guys, it’s a mind job of epic proportions.)
  4. The Believer – This Korean film is fantastic – and just impossible to understand.
  5. Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind – This makes me really happy to see this movie making it into the list of top read posts on the site for the year. And I only did a write up because it was on the Top 100 list! hahah.
  6. The Oak Room – If you are catching a trend here, you’ll notice that a lot of these films find a much wider distribution than the super indie movies we talk about here. This was a clever movie, with a complicated ending!
  7. The Machinist – Okay, annoying! This one wasn’t even written by me! hahah. Barry wrote this from over at This is Barry. He’s an awesome bloke, and if you read me, you will love reading Barry as well. Promise.
  8. Black Bear – HAHAHAH… yeah, this makes sense. Such a confusing movie.
  9. Mr. Nobody – Yup. Another horrifically confusing movie.
  10. Cordelia – Talk about Dark Horse here! Woah. That is a lot of reads for a movie that literally no one knows about! Good on ya, Cordelia! You go girl!!

Alright – there you go gang! Two really great list so of movies for you all to strip mine for your viewing pleasure. If you haven’t seen any of these, all of them are worth a watch even though they aren’t my list of best movies of 2023 (which will be coming out at the end of the year… dying for something to watch, and you are desperate for it? I might send it your way if you message me.)
