New Out Of This World Treehouses

I know a bit about building a treehouse.  After working with my father-in-law to build an over 200 square foot double decker beauty I could say that I probably deserve to be certified by treehouse school of design even.  But these newDom’Up “treehouses” from architect Nicolas d’Ursel are in a class beyond anything I would even consider attempting myself.  Slotting the treehouse between trees as opposed to amongst one single tree helps them protect both the trees and the ewoks who choose to dwell in them.  It also looks like it could be fairly easily moved – where as my little double decker treehouse is NEVER coming down again.  It would be amazing to set one of these up overlooking the Rocky Mountain National Park and to just hang out for a couple days, watching the bears, elk, foxes and coyotes go by from above.  Only glitch?  This little setup will set you back $35k or more.

The creators recently said in an interview, “The idea is to use the inner space of the forest, between the trees, rather than the inner space of a single tree which is full of branches and obstacles. Using our hanging system, we can distribute the weight of the structure with greater support, while having a lower impact on the trees. In fact, a tree can adapt itself to the constant tension like it does naturally with constant wind and we can achieve zero impact on the landscape. It is much better for the trees to hang treehouses between trees with our No Trace hanging devices, rather than trying to build into one or more trees.”
