THiNC. Movie Spotlight #17

THiNC. Movie Spotlight #17… Look. Last week, with Spotlight #16, I told you all that you were now going to have to donate $19.95 to THiNC. enterprises in order to read the sum total of all the recommendations in that amazing release. And you know what? This is totally crazy. NO ONE DONATED A DIME? I know! I can’t believe it either. Unbelievable. Here’s your stupid movie recommendations.

SEIZURE (AKA BESATT) – 2019 – Limited series brought to us by Chris. A Norwegian Crime-thriller wherein Oslovian (CY, let’s make this a thing… right? People from Oslo, are Oslovian. Come on, leave it in!) [OK! CY] detectives Max Sorensen and Sander Holm are called in to investigate after four young immigrant boys are found dead in an empty swimming pool. Soon, both men are haunted by horrible nightmares. Bizarre twists in the case (as well as a chilling sequence of increasingly mysterious events) brings the detectives face to face with both their own personal demons. Hrm. Sounds good Chris. Digging the sound of it. (My current favorite show is called Black Spot, a French series in the vein of this show I think.)

Held – 2020 – Another great recommendation from Chris. Twofer!? Thanks, chief. This one is a closed box mystery thriller. Emma and Henry’s marriage is losing its spark. In an effort to reconnect on their nine-year anniversary, they go on vacation to a remote luxury rental house — complete with state of the art automated smart-house features and integrated security. However, after suspecting a nighttime intruder, they decide to flee, only to discover they are being forcibly trapped inside —> by the all-encompassing technology. Then, a “Voice” tells them all their movements are being watched, whilst revealing intimate knowledge about their relationship. As events get more brutal and dehumanizing, Emma and Henry must work together to uncover the truth and find a way out. Sort of sounds like House With a View the Monster? No? Watch it on Prime.

Pledge – 2019 – Nancy. Dearest!?!? Oh! Love o’ my life!??! THANK YOU FOR THIS RECOMMENDATION!!! Hahah. You know we adore you, Nancy, right? Good. This one is a horror/thriller with all kinds of tension and “some cool twists!” TAGLINE: “Few get in. None get out!” In a quest to become popular, college freshmen Ethan (Phillip Andre Botello), David (Zack Weiner) and Justin (Zachery Byrd) join an exclusive, but dodgy, fraternity that promises a world of parties and girls. But first, they must survive a 48-hour long depraved and torturous initiation rite, which will test their limits on how badly they want to be in with the cool kids. Oh gosh. I can’t believe I just typed those words out loud. Nancy? What are you recommending we watch here? I’m going to watch it just because it sounds awful! Join me in watching right here on Hulu.

Sasquatch – 2021 – This is one from Lisa. It’s a 3-part mystery docuseries from the Duplass brothers….. record scratch.

OK, stop.

Let me explain how the THiNC. Spotlight gets made. Okay? Because I’m about to explode, and I sort of need to give you guys a little bit of context to my soon-to-be explosion. So, over on the Patreon discord chat server, we talk about shows we are all watching. Which goes something like – Me: “Hey Black Spot is AWESOME!” Lisa: “Yeah, fine, that was so 2-years ago.” Me: “Oh, well, I just watched ep1 of Penny Dreadful?!?” Chris: “Yeah, watched it, underwhelming.” Lisa: “Just finished Sasquatch, totally loved it.” Chris: “Oh? I’ll put it on the list.” Taylor: “What am I? Chopped liver?” Lisa / Erika / Matt / Chris / Bill / Nancy / Franz: “Yes, actually. You are.”

And then, each week, Chris hands me a pile of movies that we sort of negotiate about, and sift into this list. Right? But I don’t actually always know what’s going into the list each week. So, just now, I’m typing this, like so, “This one is —- reads — from Lisa. Cool. It’s a 3-part mystery – okay – from the Duplass brothers… ” type type type. WAIT WHAT? From WHOM? Jay and Mark created SASQUATCH?? The Jay and Mark – of the Duplass clan?!? I mean, OF ALL THAT IS GOOD AND HOLY PEOPLE?!?!? I thought we had an understanding here. When Mark Duplass creates something, ANYTHING… and releases it… —- you —- get —- my —- attention. Burn my house down if you have to. I mean, seriously, who’s day was it to get my attention when this came out? I’m not even going to type out the rest of Chris’ well-coiffed write up. Just go watch it right here on Hulu. Because that’s now what I’m doing too apparently. Gah, you guys are the absolute worst.

Stomps off.

Stomps back.

I’m not even giving you a throwback movie I’m so beside myself. No. You can’t make me. Not doing it.

Look, again… we don’t certify these movies like I do with my in depth walk-throughs. They don’t come with a money back guarantee. But you are grownups here. Right? Check them out – if you watch any of them, let us know here, and tell everyone reading what you thought of them. We’ll be better off for your guidance. And if you’d like to read more of our THiNC. Spotlight recommendations, you can do that right here.
