THiNC. Movie Spotlight #83

Both Sides of the Blade

Julia Binoche. Is there really anything else you need to know here? The Clouds of Sils Maria is one of my all time favorite movies. Yes. It’s a drama about getting ready for a film… and it’s about so much more. And it could be that this movie, Both Sides of the Blade could be about so much more as well. You never know. But I’d rather lose a leg than miss out on this one.

Breaking – 8.26

Breaking with John Boyega – When Marine Veteran Brian Brown-Easley is denied support from Veterans Affairs, financially desperate and running out of options, he takes a bank and several of its employees hostage, setting the stage for a tense confrontation with the police. Based on the true story.

The Invitation – 8.26

Minus the fact that one of the best movies ever made is also called The Invitation (which, if you haven’t seen… just stop. Go watch it right now.) Could this movie be decent, in spite of its name thievery? Dunno. Let’s find out together. Synopsis: After the death of her mother and having no other known relatives, Evie (Nathalie Emmanuel) takes a DNA test…and discovers a long-lost cousin she never knew she had. Invited by her newfound family to a lavish wedding in the English countryside, she’s at first seduced by the sexy aristocrat host but is soon thrust into a nightmare of survival as she uncovers twisted secrets in her family’s history and the unsettling intentions behind their sinful generosity.

Three Thousand Years of Longing – 8.31

I’ve seen this one. And I have issues with this one. But MINUS those issues (which I’m sure I’ll be talking about soon enough) this is a delightful, inside out film. (Minus the issues. But can you minus those issues? Great question.) Synopsis: A lonely scholar, on a trip to Istanbul, discovers a Djinn who offers her three wishes in exchange for his freedom.
