Hey there everyone, super excited to share with you my own personal list of the top 100 Netflix documentaries. I have seen a lot of these, and the ones I haven’t seen I am systematically watching as I post these — because I love nothing more than a good documentary. Netflix has been absolutely blowing it up in this space. The documentary 13th? Non-hyperbolically changed my life. Don’t F— with Cats? Unbelievable. These are so good. So join me as I watch and re-watch some of the best documentaries ever made. And seeing as though I’m nice enough to share my favorites, the least you can do is comment below which ones are your favorites, which ones are trash… you get the idea. Let’s kick this thing off.
Netflix Documentary #100 — The Carman Family Deaths
2025 | Film | Directed by Various
This one’s a wild ride. A young guy gets rescued at sea after a fishing trip with his mom — who vanishes. But then it turns out his wealthy grandfather was also murdered years earlier? The whole thing spirals into this insane family drama about inheritance and whether this kid is a secret killer. No clean Rotten Tomatoes score yet, but Netflix subscribers have been arguing about this one nonstop. The ambiguity is the whole point.
Netflix Documentary #99 — Caterpillar
I’ll be honest — this one’s on the list because I personally flagged it as something worth watching, but solid review data is thin on the ground. Sometimes the best docs are the ones nobody’s talking about yet. I’m watching this one as part of my systematic run through the list, and I’ll update you when I have more to say. For now, trust me — it caught my eye for a reason.
Netflix Documentary #98 — Chess Mate (Untold: Chess Mates)
I loved this one. Absolutely loved it. Chess docs shouldn’t work this well, but when you layer in real human drama over a 64-square board, magic happens. The competitive intensity, the mind games, the obsession — it’s all here. No big Rotten Tomatoes footprint yet, but don’t let that fool you. If you’ve ever been curious about what drives people to dedicate their entire lives to a game, this is your entry point.
Netflix Documentary #97 — Con Mum
2025 | Film | Directed by Nick Green
Another one where the RT data hasn’t caught up yet, but the premise alone got me. A mother running cons? The layers of deception and family dysfunction that come with that? It’s the kind of story that makes you uncomfortable because you start wondering about trust in your own life. Netflix dropped this somewhat quietly, but it deserves attention. Give it a shot and tell me I’m wrong.
Netflix Documentary #96 — Kylie
2026 | Series | Directed by Michael Harte
This just hit Netflix in 2026 and is still too new for critics to have weighed in properly. But I flagged it immediately. Whether you’re a fan or not, there’s usually something fascinating about peeling back the layers on someone the entire world thinks they know. I’m betting this one ages well as more people find it.
