Disney Coloring App Allows Realtime 3D Character Interaction
Um. Yes, YES PLEASE!
Adult coloring books are all the rage right now. My wife has 4? And taking “adult coloring” to the next level makes all the sense in the world. Which would be to allow for real time interaction with a three dimensional representation of that same drawing. So as you are coloring your 2D character, the three dimensional version would be updated as well. Which just seems all kinds of clever to me. Just brilliant.
Oh, and I really don’t think this is just a gimmick, but also a technique that may be usable for real time game development? And also for real time three dimensional concept creations. So think an IKEA catalog with changeable and colorable and modifiable pieces of furniture that you can move and arrange together? Or think game AI bad guys and other sprites designed on the fly by someone with not just crayons, but also someone defining the character sketch as well. The whole kit and kaboodle from the ground up. But I’m sure that is where VR and goggles will take us soon enough.
Regardless… this is just fascinating technology. Pretty excited to get my crayon on actually. No indication as to whether Disney is planning to develop this into an actual app or not. The narrator was EXCRUCIATINGLY vague on this front.
