Are You Guys Watching The New Amazon Show Killing Eve?

Really, that was the some total of the content for this post: “Are you guys watching the new amazon show killing eve?” That’s it. That’s all I have to say on that topic, because heck, if you aren’t you should be. I am, literally half way through it, and it is just constantly surprising me with just how good it is.

Alright, alright, I’ll say more than just my title then, dang you! (You guys all knew that it was literally impossible for me to do a post with less than a thousand words. I have zero ability to censure, or edit, or constrain myself. (I mean, case in point, I am currently two parenthetical asides deep in a meta-conversation that is really unrelated entirely to the topic at hand. THIS ENTIRE BLOG WOULD BE A TOTAL OF 27 WORDS IF I HAD ACCESS TO AN EDITOR. Just saying. And yet, here I am typing this screed and yelling at the sky.) Oh wait, we are still in paren land. Here, here’s another, be free my children!!)

Generally speaking, I’m not a TV guy. The screenplay author’s attempts to elongate a story beyond it’s original idea’s length just annoys me to no end. And just feels utterly sitcomy. And since I can’t keep up with the number of movies I want to watch… why bother with a lesser than format? And yet, a few TV shows have really stood above these assumptions that I have had. TV shows like Taboo – which is on scale with a Ken Burns docu-drama of a period piece drama that is just epic. Everything about it is perfect. Mr. Robot has recently flipped all my switches, but that could be because I’m an ex-hacker, (white hat white hat I promise!) and it just nails that world and those people. Another period piece, (is this a theme?) Peaky Blinders, just is so much goodness in a single television show. oh oh oh oh, Dark? Holy cow Dark. I even created this massive Dark family tree poster, I was so obsessed. And I’ll stop with The OA, which just innovated in so many cool ways. The story telling, the fantasy of it, and how it hues so closely to reality, and yet not?

What Is Killing Eve?

Curious what it’s about? Here’s the official write up on what it’s about. And I really couldn’t have written a better prĂ©cis:

Killing Eve centers on two women; Eve (Sandra Oh) is a bored, whip-smart, pay-grade MI5 security officer whose desk-bound job doesn’t fulfill her fantasies of being a spy. Villanelle (Jodie Comer) is a mercurial, talented killer who clings to the luxuries her violent job affords her. Killing Eve topples the typical spy-action thriller as these two fiercely intelligent women, equally obsessed with each other, go head to head in an epic game of cat and mouse. Killing Eve is Certified Fresh 100% on Rotten Tomatoes and has already been renewed for a second season ahead of its series premiere.

And I’ll even drop in a trailer for those of you whom weren’t persuaded by that gorgeous block of text:

So there you have it. Like I said, I’m half way through it, but I’ll be on planes all weekend, which means… I know what I’ll be doing on those flights. And if you happen to sit next to me, and I have my airpods in, and my iPad Pro afixed to my face? Go. Away. Great. Thanks for that.

Killing Eve. Brilliance.
