Cha Cha Real Smooth – 6/17
I have to admit something pungent. Peanut Butter Falcon made me absolutely love both Shia LaBeouf and Dakota Johnson. Both are marvelous actors with real magnetism and joy in their craft, regardless of how maligned or hated they are, or generally disliked they are for past artistic choices. Anyway, I learned that even besides Peanut Butter Falcon, she’s done a pile of really fantastic stuff (Suspiria, Bad Times at the El Royale, & (Oxford Comma!!!) The Lost Daughter), and have even come to watch for her work. And she hasn’t disappointed. To be honest, I know nothing about this movie. But the diffuse scuttlebutt about this movie is pointing to fantastic… and I can’t wait.
Spiderhead – 6/17
“Two inmates (Miles Teller & Jurnee Smollett) form a connection while grappling with their pasts in a state-of-the-art penitentiary run by a brilliant visionary (Chris Hemsworth) who experiments on his subjects with mind-altering drugs. And in turn, a prisoner in a state-of-the-art penitentiary begins to question the purpose of the emotion-controlling drugs he’s testing for a pharmaceutical genius.” Maybe it’s something of a Ex Machina kind of a feel to it?
