The Fallen of World War II Short Video

Over the past year I have been vociferously consuming podcasts about World War II. My main squeeze in the podcast arena has definitely been Serial. Definitely. But when I’m not listening to Serial or Undisclosed I’ve been hunting down podcasts about the Second World War. Not sure why. I’m an amateur history buff, always have been. But this level of consumption on this topic has been rare even for me. One of my favorites have been Dan Carlin’s Hardcore History episodes that cover the 2nd World War. The fact that the guy can just go and go and go without even taking a breath sometimes just blows my mind.

Regardless. Sometimes the numbers and the statistics of the War can become totally baffling and thoroughly flattened in our minds because they are too enormous to really comprehend.

And while the numbers are still baffling, I think after watching this I understood it much better. For example, Russia’s involvement was always big in my mind. I knew that Hitler basically reenacted Napoleon’s idiocy all over again by going to far and spreading too thin by attacking into Russia. But I just didn’t get just how deep into Russia he went. Granted, one of my favorite war books of all time was David Robbins’ War of the Rats which details out the battle of too elite snipers pitted against each other in Leningrad. And yet the sheer enormity of the losses on both sides are just staggering.

Anyway, I totally loved the ending of this video, and the point that Neil Hailoran is making here. When civilizations are in peace, do we necessarily recognize it? And he is probably taking grief from people for saying so. But its true, we are in an unprecedented time of peace since WWII. We are seeing a real reticence for all of humanity to engage in one more true real war because it is obvious what that would mean for the globe and for humanity. And so it is that point that we should all acknowledge and appreciate. We have been given a window of peace. What are we doing with that potential? For example, are you creating great works of art? Considering the meaning of life? Or maybe eradicating world poverty?

I do think this peace will be short lived. And the end will come out of the middle east. Maybe I should do a post about what the end of the known world will look like per prophesy. Might be fun to conjecture a bit. Regardless… until then… keep looking for the meaning and the purpose behind it all. You deserve better.
